Kham Phaeng

Kham Phaeng was rescued by our foundation on the 12th of December 2023. She was being ridden by tourists in a trekking camp located in Pattaya. She spent the last decade of her life being chained up by 15cm long chains on one front and one rear leg. She was never able to sleep lying down.

They used to feed her with very sharp pineapple trees which made her throat swollen & damaged.

Because of her past, she associates tourists with food. The more time she spends here, the more she understands that she does not rely on tourists to feed her and is doing very well eating by herself.

She is the youngest of our elephants, with an estimated age of around 60+.

Kham Phaeng before she was rescued

Kham Phaeng is a tall and skinny elephant. She is kind, curious and loves playing. She is missing one eye.

Her tall legs allow her to walk incredibly fast, and she even has the mahout struggling to keep up sometimes!

She arrived with some wounds on her head from misuse of the bull hook, which her new mahout cleans every day so it can heal.

She is adapting very well to her new found freedom, and absolutely enjoys discovering her new environment.

She can finally sleep lying down. When she first arrived shew as scared of the river, but now she feels confident to go in by herself and actually seems to find it relaxing.
