Somboon was a one-of-a-kind elephant, known for her distinctive torn ears and gentle nature. Her name means “complete” in Thai, a fitting name for such a beautiful and perfectly proportioned elephant.
Her life would eventually inspire the creation of the Somboon Legacy Foundation.
The Three Friends
About 20 years ago, Somboon was finally given the retirement she deserved. She formed a close bond with two other elephants, Malee and Kammoon.
They were rarely seen apart and became known as the “three musketeers”, sharing their days side by side.
The Moment That Changed Everything
In 2016, Somboon’s tragic and unnecessary death deeply affected everyone who loved her.
It was a turning point. The group of people who had cared for her realized that elephants deserved something better than the systems that had failed her.
That moment became the beginning of a new vision.
Her Legacy Lives On
Inspired by Somboon’s life, the Somboon Legacy Foundation was created to provide elephants with a place where they can simply be elephants — living peacefully in nature, free from exploitation.
